The Singularity

At the heart of every person is a Singularity, this singularity is GoD, and represents the corresponding place at the heart of the Galactic centre of the Universe – this is the abode of the Great Spirit.

The Anishinaabe called God, Gitche Manitou, this who is Great Spirit, the Creator of all things and the Giver of Life. The Anishinaabe who were the north plain Indians, had the belief that Creator was asleep or that he died to the world, in the process of creation. That he had thrown himself; his spirit into the creation of the world in producing the collective sum of all life. But that at the end of time – Gitche Manitou, would awaken; come back to life – causing the destruction of the Universe, and he would be reborn, and the world would be no more!

This is the concept that God is in everything and everywhere simultaneously, encompassing the transcendental nature of GoD. Therefore GoD is Omni-present, Omni-Potent, Omni-scient… This Pantheistic view of the world, does not exclude a relationship with the creator, far from it; the creator is inherent to the creation; and as such is manifest and immediate; accessible. This closeness, lends itself to respecting the world and all those creatures in it. It calls for treating people equally and everything and everyone, as if they were a part of GoD – as indeed they presently are.

These concepts might sound familiar – though you probably were not aware of the north plain Indians view. The concept is repeated in other cultures. The Hindus believe, of course, that they should treat you, when you enter their home, as if you represent the creator himself – and if you have ever been to a Hindu’s home you will realise that this is very true. This arises from the fact that Shiva is also inherent to the world; he is in fact present. There is a seemingly nihilistic chant practiced by Hindu’s that calls upon Shiva/or Maha Kala; who is also known as the ‘Great Self’ or the ‘Great Time’ and whom is in mediation upon mount Kailash – to open his third eye and ultimately destroy the world! Shiva is known as the black destroyer and the King and lover of dance in the form of Nataraja, who will indeed at the end of time, dance to the destruction of the Universe.

The opening of the Third Eye is of course a metaphor for the metaphysical; the perception of the world which arises from pure awareness. In other words the ‘seeing’ we do with our raw perception……”seeing the world”, so to speak; appreciating energy as it flows through the Universe!

There is corresponding view of the Mayan Indians. They believe that at the centre of the Universe, which is known as Hunab Ku or the ‘Galactic Butterfly’, and which is actually the centre of the Milky way, is where all is sacred. Sacred for the reason that this is the abode of GoD. This centre is actually important throughout Shamanism. The Axis Mundi, or the tree of life, known to many tribes by different names right across the world, is the Rainbow bridge, that which extends from the earth to the Milky Way. This is important to Shamanism during the Mid-winter feast. During this time, Shamans in Siberia and other areas around this most easterly region, place a tree in the house. They ascend to the top of it at the height of mid-winter. They climb the world tree of life and bring back blessings from heaven, to the whole tribe.
